Privacy & cookies

This notice explains what personal data this website collects and how cookies are used. It's written to be readable; the formal detail is below.

Who we are

This website is owned and operated by Teomach Limited, registered in Scotland under company number SC526882, registered office Bright Red Triangle, 10 Bainfield Drive, Edinburgh EH11 1AR. We are registered as a data controller with the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) under registration number ZA176995. You can contact us at hello@cenefits.com.

The short version

  • We don't use any analytics or non-essential cookies until you accept them via the cookie banner.
  • If you accept, we use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used.
  • If you sign up for rule-change updates, we process your email address only to send you those updates, using our email provider.
  • We don't sell your data, and there is no contact form on this site.

Analytics (only with your consent)

We'd like to use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site — which pages are read, where people arrive from, and so on — so we can improve it. This relies on cookies and processes usage data such as your IP address (which we ask Google to anonymise), browser and device type, referral source, and the pages you view.

Analytics is off by default. It loads only if you click "Accept" on the cookie banner. Until then, no analytics cookies are set and no analytics data is collected. You can change your mind at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser, which removes your saved choice and shows the banner again. The legal basis for this processing is your consent.

Email updates

If you use the "get notified when the rules change" signup, we collect your email address to send you occasional updates about changes to community-benefit law and guidance. We use a double opt-in: you'll receive an email asking you to confirm before we add you. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any update. The legal basis for this processing is your consent. The signup is handled by our email provider (Notifuse), acting as our processor.

Cookies we use

  • Consent preference — a small item stored in your browser to remember whether you accepted or declined analytics, so we don't ask every time. This is essential to respecting your choice and is always used.
  • Google Analytics — analytics cookies, set only after you accept. Google's privacy policy is at policies.google.com/privacy.

Sharing your data

We share data only with the providers that help us run the site — Google (analytics) and Notifuse (email updates) — and only as needed for those purposes. We may also disclose data where required to comply with a legal obligation. We don't sell personal data.

How long we keep your data

We don't keep personal data for longer than we need it. If you subscribe to updates, we keep your email address until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove it. Analytics data is retained for a limited period in line with our Google Analytics settings. We may keep data longer where we have to in order to meet a legal obligation.

Where your data is processed

The hosting for this site is situated in the United Kingdom and the European Union. Our providers (Google for analytics, Notifuse for email) may process data outside the UK; where they do, that processing is covered by appropriate safeguards under UK data protection law.

Security

We take appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal data against loss, misuse or unauthorised access. Data sent between your browser and this site is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). No transmission over the internet can be guaranteed completely secure, but we work to protect your information.

Children

This site is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under the age of 16. If you believe we hold such data, contact us and we'll delete it.

Third-party links

This site links to third-party websites, including legislation.gov.uk, gov.scot and cenefits.com. We have no control over, and are not responsible for, the privacy practices of those sites.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have rights including access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection, data portability, and the right to withdraw consent at any time. To exercise any of these, email hello@cenefits.com. You also have the right to complain to the ICO (ico.org.uk) if you think we've handled your data unlawfully.

The tool from the team behind this site

You can't track thousands of community benefits in a spreadsheet.

Securing a commitment is the easy part. Tracking, evidencing and reporting thousands of them across dozens of suppliers — to a standard that holds up — is why councils across Scotland use Cenefits: purpose-built software to do exactly that.

Only to understand how the site is used — never before you agree. See our privacy & cookies notice.
